RE: Did Fay damage your RV?

We live in just west of Ocala and have had a lot of rain ove the past few days. We never lost power, and have not found any leaks. Did forget to close tha awning one day when some wind was predicted and now have a small rip on the edge of it. Nothing real bad, but will have to watch it. Just glad it is gone and the sun is shining again.

RE: Compensation

The wife and I are working at a park in Florida about 25 hours a week. We get free sight, fre electricity, free cable, free propane, 25% off camprgound store supplies, and have some great managers to work for and with. We are not looking fo a salary since we are both still working. I work full time for Fedex and the wife works part time as a surgery nurse. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for. We made this our home and enjoy it. I guess if I was retired and needed some source of income (even if it was not a lot) I would still be looking for benefits with the salary.

RE: RV Parks - Florida West Coast

We are now full timers in Florida and live in Ocala. Last winter we say a few nights that it got down into to the 30's. Most of the time it never actually got down below 38 - 40 degrees. For most of the winter thoug, it never went much below 45 degrees at night. By mid-day it was back into the upper 60's. I agree that why pay the extra amount of money for a few cool nights.

RE: NASCAR race at Michigan next week

go9car - I have been going to Michigan for many years now. If you are staying in one of the campgrounds that MIS maintains, it shouldn't be to roudy. All campgrounds do have a certain amount of roudiness during NASCAR week. We are really hoping for some decent weather. the last few years have been extremely hot. Only one rain out. I heard that it was suppose to be in the 80's with a chance of rain on Sunday. This will be the first time that we have done this in a tent. Every year, we have been in a MH (just to expensive to drive from Florida this year).

RE: It just got to be hurting, Can't be only regional.

I notices a lot of you saying that your parks are full. That may be the case, but how many of those there are from a distant area, or are most of them locals. I know down here in Florida, (I'm a full timer) our park has very few travelers. Most are full timers or those that do come in are from within a three hour drive.

NASCAR race at Michigan next week

Anyone out there going to be at the NASCAR race next week in Michigan. I am staying at Juniper Hills. Only problem is, I am leaving the MH in Florida. Just to expensive with gas cost this year. We have been going for 10 years and this is the first that I will ruffing it in a tent. Anyone else having the same issue with gas going to NASCAR races?

Full timing in Florida

Started to full time in Florida in January and thought this was great. Now keep in mind, I am not retired, I along with the wife still have to work.
Thought 1: Florida has no income taxes, take home wage will be higher than in Ohio. It was
Thought 2: Will transfer license to Florida when Ohio plates expire in June. Not a problem - WRONG Before you can transer your plates, you have to have Florida certified insurance. Insurance in Florida is twice as much as what it was in Ohio. Transfering plate in Florida cost $125.00 for the car, $125.00 for the truck and $100.00 for the motorcycle. I decided to keep the Motorhome licensed in Ohio and keep my insurance there also. Then it cost $35.00 for each for plates, then it cost $35.00 for your drivers license. I figure by the time I am done, I will have spent around $1200 just to get everything transfered. (this includes insurance for 6 months)
Thought 3: Who had the great idea to move to Florida???
Live and learn, but the waether is great here in North Central Florida

RE: Looking for park in FL for 2009

Not sure how far south you want to head. If you want to stay north of Tampa, I live at Ocala RV Campground Resort. It is about 85 miles north of Tampa. We have plenty of sites available during the winter months. We have Pot Luck Dinners, Bingo, Some play cards on Wednsday evenings. Swimming Pool. park is kept clean. The cost last year was around $475.00 and that included electric. Cable runs around $30.00 a month. Try their web site: www.ocalarvcampresort.com
They are in the process of changing it, so keep rying if it doesn't work.

RE: Experience/Opinions regarding Camping World service center.

I stopped on the road at the CW in Statesville NC. I had a tuneup done there. the cost of parts is about average. They do charge $90 an hour labor rate. Right in the middle of the job, they stopped for lunch (45 minutes) this time went into the labor rate hour. Don't ask me how they get away with it, but they do. I'll never go back to CW for service work again.

RE: Are we coming to the "end" of a lifestyle??

It will not be long that there will no longer be a middle class. YOu will have the very rich and then the rest of us that are stugling. I am just glad that my MH is parked and I live in it.
No tell me this - The cost of gas and diesle keep going up. I just heard on the news that Exxon posted their earning for the quarter at 4.5 billion dollars. The also gave their CEO a raise. Get this 22 million dollars. Now I know where our money that we pay for gas is going. How long can this continue. It is time for our goverment to step in and shut this entire thing down and bring the cost of oil back down to earth.

RE: Using furnace while driving......

I run the firnace as a supliment to the dash heater. This way, the thermostat will maintain a constant temp and may only have to run a couple minutes every so often.

RE: I-77 tunnels through Virginia.

I have traveled this route many times and have never stopped to turn off the propane. If you had to shut off the propane, they would have to have a rest area before each one of these tunnels just for the traffic.

RE: Weather Radios & Batteries

Just as I said.
1. If the national Weather Service issues a severe thunderstorm warning, the weather alert radio will sound a tone with a voice response as to what type of weather alert it is and for what area. By then, I already had my awnings rolled up so I don't loose them.
2. If the national weather service issues a tornado watch (remember that a watch means conditions are favorable), we start to think about what we are going to do.
3. If a tornado warning is issued, we get out of the motorhome and head to the strongest structure around. In our case since we live in our MH, this is the bathroom / shower at the RV park.
We had a good storm about three weeks ago up in the Ocala area that brought down several trees ( severlly damaged three MH's ). the weather service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning several hours before. One lady in the park took her and her daughter to the local Sam's Club.
Hopefully this is what you are asking.

RE: Weather Radios & Batteries

Down here in Florida and living Full Time in a MH, a weather alert radio is a must. You may not have time to run out to your truck and turn on the weather on your CB. A weather alert radio kicks on as soon as any type of weather alert is broadcast. the past two weeks, the weather alert radio has been very usefull. I would not be withiut one down here.

RE: Need Campground information......

the KOA inRock Hill is a noce place to stay, We stayed there back in january coming down to Florida. Not knowing how far you want to travel makes it hard. We have also stayed at the KOA in Wythevill. It is just down the exit and right near the Flying J. Both places can hold large vehicles.

RE: Campgrounds between Columbus, Oh & Erie, Pa

There really are not that many campgrounds open in northern Ohio at that time of the year. Your state parks are open but have limited sites available and only limited hok-ups. Punderson State Park is about 20 miles from the interstate, Pymatuning is about 30 miles and Geneva is about 10 miles. I don't believe there are any private campgrounds open at that time of the year. Most don't open until April. Once you get into Pa. Evergreen is open, but sites are not that large. From Columbus to Erie, you are only talking about 4.5 hours. I believe that once you get to Erie, Presque Isle state park is open. I know that my signature states that I live in Florida, but I lived in northern Ohio for 28 years and camped at most of the campgrounds around.

RE: How Many Lost Days Per Year......

I guess most of you have been very lucky. We just started full timing two weekd ago, and have laready spent 4 nights in a hotel waiting on repairs. Our MH caught fire while fueling and burned the wiring harness. Fortunately I was able to get the fire out fast and kept the fire confined to the engine area. It still took 4 days. Hopefully that will be the extent of them for a while.
